    - all-purpose flour
  • 1cup
    - (2 sticks) cold unsalted butter
  • 1tsp
    - salt
  • 1/4cup
    - ice-cold water (add more if needed)
  • For the Filling:
  • 1lb
    - ground beef or chicken
  • 1
    - medium onion
  • finely chopped
  • 2
    - green bell pepper
  • 1
    - large carrot
  • diced
  • 2tbsp
    - vegetable oil
  • 1tbsp
    - flour (to thicken filling)
  • - Salt and pepper
  • to taste
  • For egg wash:
  • 1
    - egg beaten

  1. Step 1: Make the Crust

    1. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.
    1. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    1. Slowly add the cold water a little at a time, kneading lightly until a dough forms. Be careful not to over work the dough
    1. Cover and let the dough rest for 30- 45mins.
  2. Step 2: Prepare the Filling

    1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the diced onions and sauté until brown
    1. Add the ground beef or chicken and cook until browned.
    1. Add the chopped carrot, green bell pepper, pepper and salt to taste. Stir well to combine
    1. Mix the tablespoon of flour to thicken the filling, then set aside to cool.
  3. Step 3: Assemble the Meat Pie

    1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    1. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface
    1. Cut out circle using a round cutter or bowl
    1. Place a spoonful of filling onto one side of the circle, leaving space around the edges
    1. Fold the dough over to cover the filling and seal the edges with a fork.
    1. Place the meat pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, brush with the beaten egg for a golden crust
  4. Step 4: Bake

    1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
