Soaking Chickpeas for Chana Masala
- 1cupChickpeas ( White Chana )
- Sufficient water to wash and soak chickpeas
To make One Pot Chana Masala oil free
- Soaked chickpeas
- 2medium size sliced onions
- 1medium size tomato
- 4garlic pods
- 1ingrated ginger
- 1cupUnsweetened Tea concoction
- 1cupWater
- 1tbspRed chilli powder
- 1tspturmeric powder
- 1/2tbspcoriander powder
- 1tbspchole masala
- 1tspsalt
- Coriander leaves to garnish
- Ginger juveniles to garnish
How to make One Pot Chana Masala ( oil free )
For instant chana masala , soak chickpeas overnight . Take a pressure cooker or one pot cooker , add all the ingredients one by one as shown below. Chickpeas, onion , tomato, garlic pods, grated ginger, tea concoction, Water, spices and salt.
Add coriander leaves it gives a nice leafy texture and 1 spoon of ghee . Mix well and pressure cook for 6-7 whistles.
Let it naturally depressure, check if chickpeas are cooked and mash some using the back of ladle. Simmer for 8-10 min.
Garnish with coriander leaves and ginger juveniles. Serve hot with pulav, jeera rice , roti , naan , etc.
Tips & Tricks
Soak the chickpeas (chana) overnight or at least for 8 hours. This will help them cook faster and evenly in the pressure cooker without oil.
Once the pressure releases, mash some of the chickpeas against the sides of the pot. This will thicken the gravy naturally without the need for oil or cream.
