FAQS

  1. How do I make Vettu Cake crispy and ensure it has the distinctive cracks?

To achieve the crispy texture and distinctive cracks in Vettu Cake, ensure that the oil is hot enough before adding the dough balls. Fry them on medium heat, allowing them to cook evenly while forming cracks on the surface. Additionally, letting the dough rest for an hour helps in developing the right consistency.

  2. Can I make a gluten-free version of Vettu Cake?

Yes, you can make a gluten-free version of Vettu Cake by substituting all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend. Make sure to choose a blend that includes xanthan gum for better texture. The rest of the ingredients can remain the same.

  3. What is the best way to store leftover Vettu Cake?

To store leftover Vettu Cake, allow them to cool completely, then place them in an airtight container. They can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, consider refrigerating them, but note that they may lose some crispiness. Reheat in an oven or air fryer to regain some crunch.

  4. What can I serve with Vettu Cake for a complete snack experience?

Vettu Cake pairs wonderfully with a cup of tea or coffee, making it a perfect snack for tea time. You can also serve it with a side of coconut chutney or a sweet dip for added flavor. For a more indulgent experience, consider serving it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  5. What are some common substitutions for ingredients in Vettu Cake?

If you don't have cardamom powder, you can substitute it with cinnamon or nutmeg for a different flavor profile. For a dairy-free option, you can replace eggs with flaxseed meal mixed with water (1 tablespoon of flaxseed meal with 2.5 tablespoons of water per egg). Additionally, you can use coconut oil for frying to enhance the flavor.
