Ladies Finger Stir Fry (Vendakka Varuthathu) recipe

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 250g
    ladies finger (okra)
  • 15piece
    shallots
  • 1
    handful grated coconut
  • 2tsp
    chilly powder
  • 1/4tsp
    turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • 3tbsp
    oil
  • 1/2tsp
    mustard seeds

How to make Ladies Finger Stir Fry (Vendakka Varuthathu)

Preparation

  1. Wash and wipe out the extra water from the ladies finger.

  2. Chop the ladies finger into small pieces.

Cooking

  1. Put a pan on the stove and add oil. When it becomes hot, add mustard seeds.

  2. When the mustard seeds pop, add chopped ladies finger.

  3. Sauté for 5 minutes on high flame.

  4. Add shallot pieces and sauté for 2 minutes on high flame.

  5. Add chilly powder, turmeric powder, salt, and grated coconut.

  6. Sauté until it becomes completely fried.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Use fresh ladies finger for the best taste.

  2. Cook on medium to high flame to avoid the dish becoming mushy.

  3. Wipe out extra water before chopping the ladies finger.
