How to make Dal Khichdi

Preparation

  1. Soak the rice and dal for 10 minutes.

Cooking

  1. Heat 1.5 tbsp of ghee in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and let them pop.

  2. Add garlic and sauté until it turns light brown.

  3. Add chopped onion and green chilly. Sauté until light brown.

  4. Turn the flame low, Add sambar powder, chilly powder, asafoetida powder, and salt. Sauté for 20 seconds.

  5. Add chopped tomato and coriander leaves. Sauté until the ghee separates.

  6. Strain the soaked rice and dal. Add them to the tomato mix and sauté for 1 minute.

  7. Add 4 cups of hot water and cook for 3 whistles.

  8. Turn off the flame. Once the pressure is released, open the lid and add 0.5 tsp of ghee. Mix well.
