How to make Crispy Garlic Parmesan Brussels Sprouts
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
Prepare the Brussels Sprouts
Cut brussel sprouts in halves or quarters. I chose quarters because I am picky and think that brussel sprouts are often undercooked.
In a large bowl, toss the Brussels sprouts with olive oil, garlic, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and chili flakes (if using). Ensure they are well coated.
Arrange on the Baking Sheet
Spread the Brussels sprouts in a single layer on the baking sheet, cut side down. This helps them caramelize and get crispy.
Roast the Brussels Sprouts
Roast in the oven for 20–25 minutes, stirring halfway through to ensure even cooking. They should be golden brown and crispy on the edges.
Tips & Tricks
For extra flavor, drizzle with balsamic vinegar before serving.
You can always add more parmesan cheese half way through cooking for extra cheesey crispness!
FAQS
How do I ensure my Brussels sprouts are crispy?
To achieve crispy Brussels sprouts, make sure to cut them in halves or quarters and spread them in a single layer on the baking sheet with the cut side down. Roasting at a high temperature of 425°F (220°C) also helps them become crispy.
Can I use frozen Brussels sprouts for this recipe?
While fresh Brussels sprouts are recommended for the best texture and flavor, you can use frozen ones. Just be sure to thaw and drain them well before roasting to avoid excess moisture.
What can I substitute for Parmesan cheese?
If you're looking for a substitute for Parmesan cheese, you can use nutritional yeast for a dairy-free option, or try using Pecorino Romano or Grana Padano for a similar flavor.
Is it necessary to use balsamic vinegar?
No, balsamic vinegar is optional in this recipe. It adds an extra layer of flavor, but you can omit it if you prefer or if you don't have it on hand.
How can I adjust the spice level in this recipe?
You can adjust the spice level by modifying the amount of chili flakes used. Omit them entirely for a milder flavor, or add more if you prefer a spicier kick.
