- 1/2cupwarm water
- 2cupswarm milk
- 2tbspmelted unsalted butter
- 1tbspsugar
- 3tbspactive dry yeast
- 6cupswhole wheat flour
- 2tspsalt
- 1tspbaking powder
How to make Literally The Best Bread Recipe Ever (Adapted)
In a large bowl, stir the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Wait for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy on top.
While waiting, warm the milk and butter in the microwave.
Add the milk and butter to the yeast mixture.
Using a standing mixer, slowly add the flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix and knead the dough.
Once most of the flour is incorporated, use a dough hook to knead for about 5 minutes, then knead by hand for another 5-7 minutes.
Line your slow cooker with baking paper and place the dough inside.
Cook on high power for 2-2.5 hours, checking every 7-10 minutes until the top is spongy but springs back and no moisture is on the top. The bottom and sides should be a nice brown color.
Optionally, place the loaf in the oven on boil/grill for less than 5 minutes to get a crusty top.
Tips & Tricks
Use unsalted butter or adjust the extra salt added.
Add more sugar if you want a sweeter bread.
If you are not skilled at kneading, try a 50:50 ratio of whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour to avoid a dense loaf.
Make sure the bread is completely cooked through; it may take up to 2.5 hours.
You can use a tea towel on top to avoid condensation dripping onto the loaf.
