Vermicelli Upma recipe

Ingredients

(1 serving = 1 bowl)

Main Ingredients

  • 2cup
    unroasted vermicelli
  • 1tbsp
    ghee
  • 3tbsp
    oil
  • 1/2tsp
    red chilli powder
  • 1tsp
    garam masala
  • 1piece
    cinnamon stick (1 inch)
  • 4piece
    green cardamom
  • 1tsp
    cumin seeds
  • 1tsp
    mustard seeds
  • 20sprigs
    curry leaves
  • 1cup
    grated carrot
  • 1cup
    chopped capsicum
  • 1cup
    chopped onion
  • 1cup
    boiled peas and corn
  • 4cups
    water
  • 1tsp
    chana dal
  • 1tsp
    maa dhuli dal
  • salt to taste

How to make Vermicelli Upma

Prepare Vermicelli

  1. Heat ghee and roast the vermicelli until golden.

  2. Add water, bring to a boil, and strain the vermicelli.

Cook Vegetables and Spices

  1. Heat 2 tbsp of oil, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves.

  2. Add onions and cook for 2-3 minutes.

  3. Add all the vegetables one by one and continue sautéing.

  4. Add all the spices and cook for 2 minutes.

  5. Add the vermicelli and mix well.

Tempering

  1. Heat the remaining oil, sauté green cardamom and cinnamon.

  2. Add the dals, cook until golden brown, and add the tempering to the upma.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Roast the vermicelli until it turns golden to enhance the flavor.

  2. Adjust the spices according to your taste preference.
