Kachalu Ki Khatti Meethi Chaat recipe

Ingredients

6 Servings
(1 serving = 1 bowl)
  • 1kg
    kachalu/yam
  • 3
    onion, sliced
  • 2
    cucumber, chopped
  • 4
    green chilli
  • 1tbsp
    ginger, grated
  • 1cup
    tamarind water
  • 4tbsp
    jaggery powder
  • 1tsp
    salt
  • 1tsp
    black salt
  • 1tsp
    black pepper powder
  • 1tsp
    red chilli powder
  • 1tsp
    cumin seeds powder
  • 1tsp
    ajwain
  • coriander leaves

How to make Kachalu Ki Khatti Meethi Chaat

  1. Wash the kachalu/yam thoroughly and pressure cook it for 3-4 whistles with a pinch of cooking soda.

  2. Once cooked, let it cool and then peel and chop the yam into bite-sized pieces.

  3. In a large bowl, combine the yam, sliced onions, chopped cucumber, green chillies, and grated ginger.

  4. Add tamarind water and jaggery powder to the mixture and mix well.

  5. Season with salt, black salt, black pepper powder, red chilli powder, cumin seeds powder, and ajwain.

  6. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Ensure the yam is cooked properly; it should be soft but not mushy.

  2. Adjust the amount of jaggery and tamarind water to balance the sweet and tangy flavors according to your taste.
