A flavorful and spicy South Indian dish made with tomatoes, onions, and a blend of spices.

Ingredients

  • 1tbsp
    mustard
  • 1tbsp
    jeera
  • 4piece
    smashed garlic
  • 2piece
    onion
  • 5piece
    tomatoes
  • 1tbsp
    sambar powder
  • 2piece
    green chilies
  • 1/2tbsp
    sugar
  • salt to taste

How to make Spicy Tomato Onion Sambar

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Let them splutter.

  2. Add jeera and smashed garlic. Sauté until the garlic turns golden brown.

  3. Add chopped onions and sauté until they become translucent.

  4. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.

  5. Add sambar powder, chopped green chilies, salt, and sugar. Mix well.

  6. Cook for another 5-10 minutes until the flavors are well combined.

  7. Serve hot with rice or as a side dish.

Tips & Tricks

  1. You can adjust the number of green chilies according to your spice preference.

  2. For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of asafoetida (hing) while sautéing the garlic.
