- 1 1/4cupsall-purpose flour
- 1tspbaking powder
- 1/2tspbaking soda
- 1/4tspsalt
- 1/2cupunsalted butter, softened
- 3/4cupgranulated sugar
- 2piecelarge eggs
- 1tspvanilla extract
- 1/2cupwhole milk
How to make Vanilla Cake
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 7- or 8-inch round cake pan, or line it with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, use a hand or stand mixer to cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture in three parts, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Frost or decorate as desired, or enjoy plain.
