How to make Spaghetti with Meat Sauce
Prepare the Tomato Sauce
Blend the tomatoes with water. Put the blended tomatoes into a pot.
Add the tomato paste and boil until it turns into a bright red sauce, around 15 minutes. Taste and add granulated sugar if needed.
Cook the Meat
In another pot, sauté the onion until translucent.
Add the garlic and sauté for another 30 seconds to avoid burning.
Add oil, ground beef, salt, ground black pepper, ground cinnamon, and fresh oregano.
Brown the meat for around ten minutes.
Combine and Simmer
Add the tomato sauce to the meat.
Simmer for around 30 minutes, adding water as needed. You can let it cook longer on lower heat. Taste and adjust seasonings as necessary.
Serve
Serve with spaghetti and enjoy.
Tips & Tricks
Feel free to adjust the seasonings to your taste. Adding a pinch of sugar can help balance the acidity of the tomatoes.
FAQS
Can I use a different type of meat instead of ground beef?
Yes, you can substitute ground beef with ground turkey, chicken, or even a plant-based meat alternative for a different flavor and texture.
How can I make the sauce thicker?
To thicken the sauce, you can let it simmer uncovered for a longer period, allowing some of the liquid to evaporate. Alternatively, you can add a cornstarch slurry or more tomato paste.
What type of spaghetti works best for this recipe?
Any type of spaghetti will work well, but traditional durum wheat spaghetti is recommended for its texture and ability to hold the sauce.
Can I prepare the meat sauce in advance?
Yes, the meat sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Just reheat before serving.
What can I serve with spaghetti and meat sauce?
You can serve it with a side salad, garlic bread, or steamed vegetables to complement the meal.
