FAQS

  1. What is the best way to grill horse mackerel for a flavorful dish?

To grill horse mackerel effectively, ensure you preheat your grill to medium heat. Coat the fish with salsa verde before grilling, and baste it with more salsa verde during cooking. Grill each side for about 3–4 minutes until the fish is cooked through and has nice grill marks.

  2. Can I make a vegetarian version of the salsa verde for this grilled horse mackerel recipe?

Absolutely! You can create a vegetarian salsa verde by omitting the fish and using the same fresh herbs, capers, garlic, olive oil, and lemon juice. This vibrant sauce pairs well with grilled vegetables or as a dip for crusty bread.

  3. How should I store leftover grilled horse mackerel and salsa verde?

Store any leftover grilled horse mackerel in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. The salsa verde can also be stored separately in a sealed jar for about a week. To enjoy the best flavor, reheat the fish gently before serving.

  4. What side dishes pair well with grilled horse mackerel and salsa verde?

Grilled horse mackerel with salsa verde is delicious when served with a fresh green salad, crusty bread, or roasted vegetables. A chilled bottle of Chardonnay complements the dish beautifully, enhancing the flavors of the fish and salsa.

  5. What can I substitute for horse mackerel in this recipe if it's not available?

If horse mackerel is not available, you can substitute it with other oily fish like mackerel, sardines, or even salmon. Just adjust the cooking time based on the thickness of the fish you choose to ensure it cooks evenly.
