How to make Angel Hair Pasta with Cherry Tomatoes and Basil
Cooking Steps
In a skillet, heat the extra-virgin olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the cherry tomatoes and roast for about 5 minutes.
In a large pot of water, add generous pinches of salt. Bring to a boil, then add the angel hair pasta and cook for 1 minute less than the time on the package directions.
To the skillet with tomatoes, add garlic, fresh basil, unsalted butter, crushed red pepper flakes, granulated sugar, salt, and ground black pepper. Stir to combine and cook for 1-2 more minutes to infuse the flavor.
Use tongs to transfer the pasta to the skillet. Add Parmesan cheese and crumbled feta cheese. Stir to combine until the cheese is melted.
Sprinkle the basil leaves on top. Serve with more Parmesan cheese on top.
Tips & Tricks
Adjust the amount of crushed red pepper flakes to your spice preference.
For a sweeter sauce, add a pinch of sugar to balance the acidity of the tomatoes.
FAQS
Can I use a different type of pasta instead of angel hair?
Yes, you can substitute angel hair pasta with other types such as spaghetti or linguine, but keep in mind that cooking times may vary.
How can I make this dish vegetarian?
This recipe is already vegetarian, as it does not contain any meat. Just ensure that the cheeses used are rennet-free if you want to keep it strictly vegetarian.
What can I do if I don't have fresh basil?
If you don't have fresh basil, you can use dried basil as a substitute. Use about 1 teaspoon of dried basil for every tablespoon of fresh basil.
Can I make this dish ahead of time?
While it's best enjoyed fresh, you can prepare the tomato and garlic mixture ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator. Just reheat it before adding the cooked pasta.
How can I adjust the spice level in this recipe?
You can adjust the spice level by varying the amount of crushed red pepper flakes. For a milder dish, use less or omit it altogether, and for more heat, add more to taste.
